Triangle patch?

In CoD5 there is a nice feature ( with an icon ) where you can make a single triangular patch. I'm searching how to do it in CoD4. There's no feature like that but there's surely a way to make a single 1x1 triangle patch.

just make a 2x2 patch and weld 2 of the verts together on one edge.

yeah, no shortcuts in cod4 for it AFAIK
