    question about the minimap tut/cod4

There is just 1 little thing that I cannot seem to grasp and I would be most thankful of your help in clearing out the cobwebs, ok here it is:
in asset manager, in hud.gdt*, make a copy of compass_map_mp_backlot with the same name as the tga you created, and set up the "color map" to reference your tga

Its the hud.gdt that I don't get, I have and made a copy of the compass/backlot, I changed the names inside and out to my mapname.....now where do I place this or what do I do with it in assman? Is it in material factory by chance? And when I do this move with the hud.gdt all I need to do is finish following the tut?

    Thanks Again!

or am I suppose to leave it where I made the copy from?

The minimap is an easy one. Save your compass_map_mp_yourmapname to the textures asset folder. 512x512. Now open assman. Scroll to material and click. Then new entry.
Type in compass_map_mp_yourmapname and then click ok. Now in the first box click 2d the box under it click on <none>. Go now to the color map ... button and import you picture
from texture asset. The next box down change tile both to no tile. The next box change to nomip bilinear. Now go to file and click save as and go to source data. Then type in
compass_map_mp_yourmapname and save. Now hit f10 or pc convert. Your done in assman. Now go to raw/images in the call of duty MW and copy the iwi to your customMap raw folder
for your map. Now bring up your update zone file and add the line material,compass_map_mp_yourmapname and then ok. Click build fast file and then run selected map.
If you did every thing right your minimap should show. You may have to revise your map picture a few times to get it to show you in the proper location but this method as always worked
for me in XP and Win 7. Hope that helps.

Don't beat yourself up over it! Sometimes things just take practice to get the hang of it. If your frustrated, I would say start over. You'd be surprised how easily it is the second, third, fourth, or even fifth time!

Did you add the two script_origins in opposite corners in your map?
Did you give them a key targetname and a value minimap_corner?
After compiling your map and ran your map did you bring up the command console and type in /set scr_minimap_height 10000
then hit enter, then typed in /exec minimap and hit enter. Close the console and hit f12 to take a overhead shot of your map?
    Just wondering.
